More artists and less MBAs

The human being is contradictory.

We live in an era of changes; we know that what used to be good for us for many years may not be useful by the next month.

But, although many times we say that we are innovative, disruptive and that we are up to date with the latest trends, in the end we always end up doing what others do or what we have been doing so far.

BECAUSE ALTHOUGH IT IS VERY NICE TO SAY THAT WE ARE INNOVATIVE, FEAR IS EATING US UP.

We talk about the fact that the labour market is undergoing a big change, however, if we don’t receive a CV with the format of 10 years ago we think that it is an “extravagant” person.

Every week I see on Linkedin the importance of personal branding in this interconnected world, however, most departments do not want to hire a more influential person with more social impact than the boss himself, to see if he will take the post!

We talk about creativity when, deep down, we do not want professionals to come and contribute new ideas, lest they revolutionize the status quo of the labour climate that reigns thus far. These are some of the absurdities that human beings face in daily life.

Who understands it?

I can only think of two reasons:

  1. We like to follow what is fashionable, it is cool, although deep down we don’t understand well what it is all about; see for example the “blockchain” phenomenon.
  2. We prefer to pretend to be something that we are not for fear of expressing our authentic talent and for others to criticize us or reject us. Daily life and fear lead us to follow the flock

I always say that we love MBAs, the qualification; we believe that the more we have the better professionals we will be. We tend to raise many people with certain positions and who have studied in certain business schools or universities to the Olympus of the Gods when in fact we do not even know how they work.

But are so many MBAs really necessary in an uncertain and constantly changing world?

In contrast to the MBAers, there are the Creatives! Calm down, let me explain.

The creatives, the artists are not light years away from you. You do not need a master’s degree from a school with an unpronounceable name to be considered creative.

You are also creative.

You do things differently in certain activities. You make omelettes like nobody else, you have learned to program yourself, you organize the best events with the least resources that anyone has so far ever been to, etc …

That is to be creative. IT IS TO SHOW THE WAY YOU HAVE TO SEE LIFE AND GIVE FREE REIGN TO YOUR IMAGINATION.

You show that perspective through your talent.

You know that you have a specific talent when others ask you to help them because they tell you that nobody does it like you and because they also feel that your work is better. You blush, you think they are exaggerating but you are delighted to do it.

That is being creative. That is to be an artist.

However, in today’s society, we often label artists as “weird”.

I believe that in these times, where everything happens faster, the environment changes more frequently and there is uncertainty in every sector, it is precisely the creators who will lead the world:

  • They are flexible; they know that life is not parameterized and they flow with it.
  • They are not just a university degree, but a way of doing and acting.
  • They have a vocation and passion for what they do; they train and learn every day because for them it is not an effort.
  • They have vision and go steps ahead of others; they see change and innovation as an opportunity to be better..

Artists feel that things can be done differently; they do not hesitate to jump on the “train of opportunities” and have so much passion of their own that they end up leading innovation in the world.

No matter the professional field, let’s leave the MBAs behind, the “things are done here because they have always been done like this”, discarding someone for the lack of a qualification and signing more “artists” to help us to lead that transition from uncertainty to certainty and improve our business culture.
