Five search engines with more privacy than Google

In the last three years, private search engines have increased their growth very significantly. Although Google is still the king (to the extent that it holds some kind of monopoly in certain countries), there are many alternatives, mainly focused on improving user privacy.

If we look at the data, Google’s market share has decreased in Anglo-Saxon countries in this period. In 2017, Google’s market share was 78.7%, in 2018 it was 70% and currently it is around 65%.

Many of these alternative search engines have managed to increase their strength thanks to the improvements they have included in terms of privacy vs. the giant Google. We review here some of the most outstanding ones:

DuckDuckGo

Of course, DuckDuckGo is the best known search engine as an alternative to using Google. Its own creator, Gabriel Weinberg, claims that they save absolutely no data.

It performs searches via Yahoo and allows you to search within giant websites such as Amazon or Youtube by simply using the exclamation mark “!

It also has an analysis system that allows you to know how safe a website is at the level of privacy before entering it.

Search Encrypt

With Search Encrypt you will get local encryption to help keep your searches secure. It uses two types of encryption: AES-256 and Secure Sockets Layer.

Gibiru

Gibiru works with a modified version of Google’s algorithm. His goal is to be like Google was when it was founded: a search engine just like that, with no tracing, paid advertising (which adulterates searches) and all the additions that Google has included over time and that have harmed its level of privacy.

It is very fast and does not install either personalization or tracking cookies.

StartPage

Although it searches using Google’s algorithm results, StartPage also integrates Ixquick technology, a search engine with its own results.

As added services it includes a URL generator that eliminates the need for cookies, a proxy service and full HTTP support.

It is currently widely used in Germany.

BiClave

BitClave uses a blockchain to perform its searches. That is, it is a decentralized search engine whose main objective is to protect the user’s privacy.

In this way, the user can perfectly control what information he or she gives and what information he or she does not give to the advertisers. In fact, in its advertising system it eliminates intermediaries and elaborates contracts directly between users and final advertisers.vertisers.
